Oaxaca is a weird, wonderful, & gritty place. Very dark, dirty and broken on the surface but often, hidden away behind dark gates, are courtyards filled with color, magic, light and life. The city and surrounding pueblos are all very very rich in artwork, Each town specializes in a unique craft. I visited several, wood carving, carpet weaving, tin smithing, fabric weaving, embroidery, black pottery etc. It's certainly a fun place to shop. Spanish classes were great and helpful but I've got a long ways to go yet. I stayed with a family for part of my time which added a dimension to my trip. Going back is a distinct possibility.
